Welcome to Virtual Pilots Department of HvACC

What is VATSIM and what does it mean to be a virtual pilot?

VATSIM is a world wide non profit network (connection is free) where all virtual pilots connect with the appropriate programs (Squawkbox, FSInn) which are add-ons to Flight Simulator and help you to connect to the virtual airspace.

When we say connect we mean the following:

The aircraft of the virtual pilot exists virtually in the same geographical point where he has connected, with real weather and all other aircrafts in a 50 to 60 miles radius. Additionally, if the area is covered by a virtual air traffic controller then the virtual pilot must contact him through voice or alternatively text, and by applying the rules of flights and radiotelephony that exist in real civil aviation, he should be able to fly a virtual flight as a real aircraft would do from one geographical point to another.
In case that the area is not covered by an air traffic controller, there are also rules that apply. These are also based to the rules that regulate real civil aviation in uncontrolled airspaces, like announcing your intentions in a Unicom radio frequency etc.
  • Being a Virtual Pilot means that:

First of all you comply with the rules of VATSIM as they are written in the following page: http://www.vatsim.net -> Regulations (bottom left) -> Code of Conduct και Rules And Regulations

You have made an effort to learn the rules of civil aviation in relation with navigation and radiotelephony. The latter can be obtained in a series of manuals in the relevant page of this site.

You have made an effort to try to learn the way your aircraft of choice flies. Relevant information can be obtained from the aircraft developer’s manuals but also from manuals found on the Internet.

All the above are not imperative so that you can fly virtually. Your willingness to learn and your personal estimation of when you are ready to fly your first virtual online flight will do for us.
Being a virtual pilot surely requires you to study. However, you are the one to set the standards. You just need not to spoil the element of enjoyment of your virtual colleagues, pilots or controllers.

What does the HvACC Pilots' Department do?

pilots4.jpg
• It represents the operations of VATSIM in Greece.
• Organizes and selects the manuals that are necessary for someone who starts on this hobby.
• Organizes Training Nights every Monday at the airport of Kos (LGKO) where cycles of lessons are being taught. Each pilot has the ability to learn the basic but at the same time to find answers to any of his questions related to the hobby.
• Organizes training events and tests.
