First Steps

Welcome to the Training Department

pilotst1.jpg

We at the HvACC, have put great emphasis on the realism levels that can be attained when flying on-line within our FIR, so that our member pilots and controllers can maximise their entertainment factor. This is the role of our well-organised Training Department.

Aim of the Training Department

In this department we aim to help and train new "virtual" air traffic controllers (ATC) and pilots. This help is provided by theoretical and practical means, through the Internet and live meetings, without forgetting of course the main reason we are all here, the fun through our hobby by realistically simulating the real avaition environment, with private or commercial flights within air-traffic controlled airspace.
NOTE : ACCGR3 and ACCGR4 are responsible for the Upgrade Recommendations of the HvACC Controllers. If you would like a higher level as a controller, you must first request and pass the VATEUD written Test and then contact our Training Department using the "Contact Us" form on the communications section. For details. please check the ATC Upgrade Page

Aircraft Pilots

The "Pilot/OBS" rank is the first level under which VATSIM (Virtual Air Traffic Simulation network) permits its users to connect and participate to "on line" operations. All you need to fly "on line" (except, of course, your flight simulator) is to obtain a VATSIM ID from here and install the SquawkBox or FSInn program.
ALSO DO NOT FORGET TO CHECK-OUT THE VATSIM PILOT RESOURCE CENTER. FURTHER DETAILS IN THE SPECIFIC SECTION OF THIS WEBPAGE. NOTE : ACCGR6 is responsible for Pilot Training Matters. Contact our Pilots Training Department using the communication area on our website.

The First Steps

  • PART A
Go and checkout VATEUD-TD Page which explains EVERYTHING a newcomer wants to know. After you have submitted your ID request (stating that you are based at the Hellenic Virtual ACC)

  • PART B
It is imperative that you look (listen, read) very carefully training tutorials that we consider the MINIMUM startup material for any on line flying / controlling procedure.
    a) The Greek Tutorial which can be found in in the HvACC's Training Tutorials.
    b) The VATEUD Training Manual found at the VATEUD-TD Training Department site
    c) The VATUK Voice Tutorials.
    d) ASRC support files from AVSIM file library. We especially recommend the beginners' tutorials. Make sure you also read the basic manual that comes with ASRC

All the above items can be downloaded and read off line at your spare time with no rush.

Other Preparation

It is also important that you register as a HvACC member, so that you can communicate with the rest of our 400+ Hellenic members, through the mail list. You'll find the registration link in the home page of our website.

VATSIM Pilot Resource Center

Training Nights

HvACC Training Department organizes in a weekly basis training meetings in order to tutor pilots and controllers.
Regarding pilots, these meetings take place every MONDAY NIGHT 200-2200 Zulu Time.

Training Area is Kos (LGKO) airport.

What do they offer

They offer an excellent training opportunity, away from Athens TMA, without you having to fly for a long time.

You can practice on:
• VOR/ILS Approach
• Vectored ILS Approach
• NDB Approach
• SID & STARs
• VOR/DME Approach
• Flight Plan Clearance
• Ground Control

New pilots can park anywhere they wish at Kos airport. One or more training department staff members will be there as tutors in order to help new pilots in their first steps.
pilotst5.jpg
It takes usually seven training nights to cover all the necessary subjects. These include:

1. Squawk Box, FsInn, Multiplayer & FS2004 problems
2. Flight Principles / Meteorology
3. Enroute Charts Reading / Flight Plans
4. VOR - NDB
5. Holdings, SID - STAR Charts Reading
6. Radiotelephony
7. Training flight where all the above are put to practice
It is important that new pilots have studied the tutorials available in the training department pages.
These sessions along with the above mentioned tutorials are NOT for those aiming at solving their questions quick and easy but rather for those who want to enrich and cultivate their knowledge or learn from the beginning how to fly correctly without being anxious about how they will perform in their first online flight. ANY question can be asked and ANYTHING can be said wrong so that it can be corrected on the spot.

Participation

The pilot tutors will be connected to the network as LGKO_TWR with a _Τ_ in between the callsign (ie LGΚΟ_T_TWR) and the rest of them as pilots at the airport’s apron.

You will need:

a) To have studied the tutorials available in the training department pages.

b) All IFR charts for Rhodes and Kos and the IFR airway charts.

c) We also suggest Vroute so that you can see which other pilots are online.

d) Squawkbox 3 or FsInn.

Place your aircraft at a gate or parking position (NEVER and under no circumstances on the runway) connect to the network, set Squawk Stand By and tune in LGKO_T_TWR at 121.05
