Squadron Checkrides

Pilots belonging to the Hellenic vACC are divided in four categories, depending on their knowledge level and skills. These categories are “Ο”, “Α”, “Β” and “C”.

Any pilot joining the Greek division automatically gets assigned rank "O". Following that and should he or she desire it, a request to upgrade may be filed for one of the higher categories. The pilot will then take part in a Squadron Checkride, the successful completion of which will place him or her at the higher category that was applied for. It should be noted that such a "promotion" provides no extra rights to pilots - it is merely a test so that each of us may better evaluate our own skills in simple or more difficult scenarios.

Squadron Checkrides are three different examinations for pilots, the aim of which is (apart from entertainment and broadening of one's knowledge) to give a chance to those who wish it, to put their flying skills to a quick test.

Squadron Checkride Β is the second level examination for pilots. Upon successful comletion you will be upgraded from category "A" to "B".
In order to participate in Squadron B you will have to first obtain the Squadron A rating.
The examination is conducted once every two months, following an announcement by the Pilots Department.

During the examination you will fly online from one airport outside Greece to one of the Hellenic FIR. Your communication with the controller(s) will be conducted in English.

The purpose of this examination is to evaluate correct usage of english radiotelephony, as well as your ability to correctly perform all the procedures outlined in the Squadron A checkride (SID, STAR etc), this time at more demanding airports, one of which is not even part of the "familiar" hellenic airspace.

If you wish to take part in a Squadron Β checkride, please send us a request using the communication section of our website.

A few days before the actual checkride you will receive an email containing instructions.

Squadron Checkride C is the third level examination for pilots. Upon successful comletion you will be upgraded from category "B" to "C".
In order to participate in Squadron C you will have to first obtain the Squadron B rating.
The examination is conducted twice annually at most, following an announcement by the Pilots Department.

This is the third and hardest of the three examinations. You will be asked to do everything outlined in the A and B checkrides and you will be routed to a European airport with one of the most difficult approach procedures.

In order to succeed you will have to minimize any chance of error, be well acquainted with your aircraft as well as have considerable skill in IFR chart interpretation.

We consider this test quite demanding, but at the same time an enormous challenge!

If you wish to take part in a Squadron C checkride, send us a request using the communication section of our website

A few days before the actual checkride you will receive an email containing instructions.
